Poor Ubisoft.
Once again disproving the common perception that the video game industry is recession-proof, major publisher Ubisoft revealed today that sales are down.
Sales for the first half of fiscal year 2009-2010 (ending September 20th, 2009) were down 51.7% (or 52.0% when adjusted for exchange rates).
The first quarter of the year saw a decrease of 52.8% (53.1% adjusted). The publisher's biggest title during this time is sequel Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, which has sold close to 900,000 copies so far.
Ubisoft is optimistic about the second half of the fiscal year, expecting a 22% increase in sales over the first half of the year due to a mix of products and a few major releases in the third quarter (Assassin's Creed 2, Avatar: The Game, Rabbids Go Home). Fourth quarter release highlights include Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction, Red Steel 2, and R.U.S.E.
Ubisoft also revealed that it sells more games on the Nintendo DS than on any other console.
