What is the best thing about lunchtime at The Farm Kitchen?
It could be the fresh ingredients on the menu, the dessert spread that expands the length of the counter, or the ample outdoor seating in a tranquil, back-to-nature setting.
Actually, it's a combination of all these things that makes this pastoral lunch spot magic this time of year.
There are actually three restaurants on The Farm at South Mountain property which include Morning Glory Cafe, a breakfast spot and Quiessence, an upscale foodie destination. But The Farm Kitchen is the only one that offers delicious sandwiches like favorite Grilled Chicken BLTDA.
The Grilled Chicken BLTDA, $9.95, combines chicken, bacon, field greens, local dates, apples and tomatoes with basil mayonnaise on a sweet potato chile bread. It might sound like a lot of flavors, but the blend of sweet and salty is altogether delicious.
When the weather is suited for outdoor seating (as it is now), the lunch rush can get pretty hectic, but The Farm Kitchen set-up accommodates the traffic. First, patrons wait in line, where they can peruse some of the local food products (nuts, canned veggies, sauces, etc.) for sale and decide on a sandwich or soup made from mostly fresh, local ingredients. In the beverage portion of the line, diners choose from lemonade and several flavored teas. Then comes time to salivate over a counter full of delicious desserts like butternut squash creme brulee, coconut cupcakes and a decadent chocolate cake. Time to order. Wait outside and enjoy Arizona fall living while waiting for your number to be called.
If you have time, work off lunch (and some of the amazing desserts) and take a walk around the groves of Pecan trees, Maya's Farm, chicken coups, and the Artist's Studio.
