Nothing is more American that an apple pie.

So for your '4th of July' party, get out your flag, your red white and blue and bake this pie. It’s easy.

All you have to do is peel the apples, mix up sugar and cinnamon, and pour it into a store bought pie shell. In about 30 minutes your pie is prepped!

Happy Birthday USA!!!

Dutch Apple Pie

Pie Filling:

  • 5-6 Granny Smith Apples, peeled and cored and then sliced thin
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 Tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice (about ½ lemon depending on the size)
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon

Crumb Topping:

  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 stick butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 store bought pie crust or you can make your own!

Directions:

For the pie filling: Mix the salt, sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon together in a small bowl. In a large Ziploc bag, add the apples and lemon juice. Shake to fully coat. Then add the dry mixture, seal the bag and mix together well. Pour into prepared pie crust.

For the crumb topping: Mix together all the ingredients with a pastry blender or potato masher. Or you can use your (clean) fingers. Put the crumb topping over the top of the apples.

Bake: at 400 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until brown and bubbly. Serve with vanilla ice cream.
