If you are looking for additional ways to use your homemade peanut butter I showed you how to make last week, then I have the ultimate (but easy) dessert for you!

I can’t tell you how many times I walk past the Godiva store, eying those pretty peanut butter cups, and chocolate covered fruit in the window. I don’t get but five steps from the store before I have to turn around and buy one. Then one day, I realized, this is silly. Yes, these are absolutely wonderful, but I could easily make these at home…for a fraction of the price.

With just a small chocolate mold pan you can make your own peanut butter cups allowing you to control the quality of the ingredients and the cost. What could be better than that?

I found my chocolate mold by Wilton at Michael’s craft store in Troy. I actually purchased a “Brownie Fun” silicone mold. I liked this better than the Wilton peanut butter cup molds because the silicone in this pan allowed me to pop out the candies without breaking them. The mold cost me $9.99 but if you pay attention to all the store coupons that they send out in the mail you should be able to get it for much less than that. See…frugal can be fun! Enjoy!

Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

Ingredients:
2 ½ cups Semi-Sweet, Milk, or Dark Chocolate (chips, chunks, or chopped up bars)
½ cup peanut butter, creamy

Special tools: double boiler, chocolate molds, 2 teaspoons

Directions:
Start out by melting the chocolate in a double boiler. Tip: Make sure the water in the double boiler isn’t touching the melting bowl. This should keep the chocolate from scorching . Also, be careful to not to get ANY water in the melting bowl as this may cause the chocolate to seize.

Filling the chocolate mold

Place silicone mold on a cookie sheet to keep it stable. Once the chocolate is melted, add about 1 teaspoon of chocolate to coat the bottom of each cup in the mold. Refrigerate until hardened.

Just before topping off with chocolate

Add about ½ teaspoon in the center of each mold. Then top with chocolate to fill each cup in the mold to the top. Return to the refrigerator until completely hardened. I kept mine in for about an hour.
