Welcome to March's "How to Tuesday"!

With the recent scare of tainted peanut butter I am sure many begin to wonder, what’s next?

With so many uncertainties of the safety of our food, sometimes the best thing we can do is get back to basics and learn to make things ourselves. While this may require a bit more effort, you may come to realize that the satisfaction of making something yourself provides you with a better tasting product as well as saving you money in the long run.

I have been hooked on natural peanut butter for years, but I never really considered making it myself until my local gourmet market provided a peanut grinding service. It’s like going back to my childhood when I get the thrill of ‘pushing the button’ of the machine and out comes warm freshly ground peanut butter. So this got me thinking….I could totally make this at home in my food processer.

This is where the ‘saving money’ factor kicks into high gear…

Homemade Peanut Butter

Ingredients:
2 cups honey roasted peanuts

Directions:
In a small food processor, add the nuts and close the lid. Pulse for a few seconds t get the peanuts ground, and then let it run constantly until the peanuts become smooth like peanut butter consistency. Pour into an airtight container and store in your refrigerator. Pull out the peanut butter 10 minutes before use for easier spreading.
