Looking for last minute gifts? Time is almost up!

Don’t worry, I have you covered! In the age of the credit crunch, we are all looking for cheap creative gifts. Even Martha Stewart has featured homemade gifts on her holiday segments this season.
You are probably thinking, “What does the ‘cooking’ examiner know about home crafts and gift giving?”

Well, let me show you!

How about making homemade cookie starters in mason jars? All you have to do is visit a site like this, and they will provide ALL kinds of recipes like: cookie recipes, a brownie recipe, and even hot chocolate recipes! Then, the only job you have is to measure out the dry ingredients, attach the recipe and tie a little Christmas bow on it and you are all set!

Don’t have any Mason jars lying around the house?  No problem, I picked mine up at the new ACE Hardware on 13 mile and Southfield Road in Beverly Hills. Just to prove how great these are to give this season, even the cashier was giddy when I told her what these jars were for.

Not only are these homemade gifts economical, but they are so pretty and festive. I just know your friends and family will love them!

Here is a recipe I used get you started!

Happy Holidays!

Brownies in a Jar
Recipe from:Christmas-cookies.com

Ingredients:
5/8 cup of all purpose flour
3/4 tsp salt
1/3 cup cocoa
1/2 cup flour
2/3 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup white sugar
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup vanilla chips
¼ Dried Cherries (I added this, I was running out of room so pack down the ingredients and top off the jar with as much as you can fit in)

Directions:
Mix the first flour and salt together and put into the bottom of a quart jar. Layer the rest of the ingredients in the order they are given.

Attach a tag with the following directions to the jar:

1) Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease a 9x9 pan.
2) Pour contents of jar in a large bowl and mix well.
3) Stir in 1 tsp vanilla, 2/3 cup of oil, and 3 eggs. Beat until just combined.
4) Pour batter into pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.

Helpful Tip:  Make a funnel with a piece of paper and put that in the jar so the ingredients are easy to pour in!
