Cadillac's SRX has been a great, stylish wagony-trucky-thing, and it's all new for 2010. While the first iteration looked good, the second-gen SRX looks so great that you'd be forgiven for uttering expletives. GM has really pulled its styling together, and the new SRX benefits from a very handsome form that looks unmistakably Cadillac, while evolving the form - check the new swage down the flanks.
Underneath the new skin, the new SRX is a GM parts-bin raid, which is a good thing, since Cadillac has cherrypicked some of the nicest hardware in the General's arsenal. Engines are a development of the high-feature V6. A 3.0 liter naturally aspirated V6 is new, and delivers an impressively strong 260 horsepower. There's also a turbocharged 2.8 liter version of the V6, delivering the same 300 horsepower it does beneath the hood of Saab's Turbo X. Also lifted from Saab is a well-sorted Haldex AWD system.
The interior comes in for the full-on handsome treatment, too. The design features tasteful brightwork, and a facet that runs down the center stack, echoing the same feature on the exterior. Finish the inside off with Cadillac-traditional warm-hued wood and leather, and it's a very comfortable place to pass time. If you were shopping for a Lexus RX, we'd try to talk you into this new SRX. It's more stylish and better looking, we're looking forward to driving it, but expect no surprises other than well-sorted competence, and with the Detroit brands on the ropes, there's a sense of duty to buy one of the excellent vehicles rolling out of GM these days.
