Scenario: Person A spends some time on the internet when Person B starts an intriguing conversation. They start chatting with one another and soon become close. Exchanging photos, Person A and Person B being to fall for one another and soon they are writing romantic letters to one another almost daily. They become very close and suddenly Person B asks Person A to visit him/her. Person A, full of excitement and infatuation, accepts the offer and books a plane ticket.

Young travelers can fall in love anytime during their stay overseas, on a business trip abroad, or through conversations online. Some stay in touch after their visits while others decide that the distance is not worth the effort. Visiting a significant other abroad, or falling in love while traveling, can be an exciting adventure. However, traveling to meet a love abroad does lead to some risks, especially if a traveler has never met his/her significant other in person. Here are some steps in order to assist travelers in remaining safe when visiting their significant others:

• Have multiple web camera chats at random times. This way, travelers can see their significant others and watch their nonverbal cues as well as determine whether or not they match their photos.

• Inform others of the trip. In case something goes wrong, it is best for travelers to inform their friends or family members of their location and give them phone numbers and addresses to the hostel, hotel, or private residence they plan on residing within during their stay. Also, travelers should contact their friends or family members on a daily basis.

• Research the location. Travelers should research which places to visit, which places to avoid, and even potential tourist sites. After all, if things do not go according to plan and the relationship turns sour, travelers can spend some time touring the city and make the best of their trip.

• Write down emergency numbers and locations. In case of an emergency, travelers should have numbers such as the police station, hospital, and embassy or consulate stored on a cell phone or within an address book.

• Stay in a hostel, hotel, or other forms of budget accommodation. This is highly recommended for travelers who have never met their significant others in person. If the relationship does not work out, then the traveler still has a place to stay rather than attempting to make a last-minute reservation.

• Meet at a public place. Never meet at a private residence. Instead, meet in a public setting such as an airport, train or bus station, popular tourist attraction, or restaurant.

• Avoid drugs and alcohol. If travelers do decide to imbibe alcohol then it should be kept to a limited amount. Also, travelers should never take their eyes off of their drinks in order to avoid spiked drinks.

Traveling for love can be a very romantic gesture, but safety should play a very important factor. Travelers should prepare in advance so they can have fun once they arrive at their destination. Travelers should also explore the city itself whether they are with their significant others or if they are traveling with other hostel guests or by themselves if they feel safe.
