One of the safest ways to travel is by traveling with a group of people. In fact, traveling with a group of friends is a reassuring experience for many new and young travelers. However, there are a few scenarios to consider when traveling within a group setting.
Travelers should travel with compatible people and share similar travel personalities. For example, some travelers believe in enjoying the experience and spending long amounts of time at each attraction. Other travelers may want to see as many places as possible and run around from attraction to attraction in order to avoid wasting the trip. When these personalities begin to clash, it is best to discuss the issue and come to a compromise. Either that, or agree to separate and meet one another at a designated time and place.
Another situation to consider is the impact of a friend’s fears, behavior, or other issues before creating an itinerary. For example, if a friend is afraid of heights then using the stairs to reach the first two levels of the Eiffel Tower is not recommended. Also, if a friend has a medical condition then this should be taken into account before formulating a travel plan. If a friend needs to have internet access or other specific amenities during the trip then accommodations should be made together and agreed upon by everyone.
Finally, just because a group is traveling together it does not mean its members are joined at the hip. If one friend wants to visit Edinburgh Castle while another wants to visit the zoo then these members can separate and visit these different sites if necessary. Before splitting the group, travelers should discuss each separate itinerary and agree on a designated time and place to regroup once more. A few good meeting places include a popular tourist attraction, restaurant, or in the group hostel or hotel room.
