A Wichita teacher was arrested over the weekend on drug charges in Oklahoma. Clell Aven Posey was taken into custody Saturday night on I-35 and Highway 177 near Braman, Oklahoma. Officers found nearly a pound of marijuana, a large amount of cocaine and just over $400 in cash.

A Blackwell Police spokesman said Posey’s arrest, and the Friday night arrest of another suspect, Mark Anthony Short of Blackwell, Oklahoma, was part of a 9-month investigation into a drug distribution network that was trafficking drugs into Oklahoma from Wichita.

Wichita police were asked to search Posey’s home and they discovered more than a pound of marijuana, methamphetamine, several firearms and $1,700 in cash.

Posey is a social studies teacher at the Arkansas Avenue Gateway Alternative School. District officials were made aware of his arrest on Monday, and placed him on administrative leave. While there is no indication of illegal activities taking place on school property, a district spokesperson says they will wait for the results of the police investigation before taking additional action.

Posey’s bond was set at $50,000 in Kay County District Court, and Blackwell police say additional arrests are possible as they continue to investigate.
