Now that the smoke has cleared from T-Pain's ears following his Vegas confession of his feelings about Jay-Z’s “D.O.A.”, Jay has taken the time out to address T-Pain’s thoughts.
In a recent interview, Jay-Z discussed the early release of Blueprint 3 (that he attributed to the excessive leaks the album experienced weeks before its intended release) among other things. When asked what he thought about T-Pain being caught saying,
Jay-Z is 59 years-old so I don't think he has the right to say what's good and what's not. I mean if anybody's dead, it should be him. That's just me. Now I just want to clarify, if there are any Jay-Z fans in the house, excuse the f**** out of me. But you don't hear me saying that rap is dead. Even though it is because apparently all the rappers are trying to do T-Pain.
Jay responded with a simple “I hope he had fun saying it”. T-Pain’s thoughts came as a bit of a surprise to music fans that were under the assumption that the “Bartender” singer was OK with the controversial song. At this year’s Hot 97 Summer Jam, T-Pain said that he liked the song and the fact that Jay decided to throw daggers at the vocal effect that has catapulted his career. T-Pain even appeared on the Summer Jam stage with Jay-Z as the rapper performed the song.
Jay took the liberty of explaining the purpose of the song. He admitted that he wrote the song because of the lack of diversity in music today. He further elaborated that once upon a time, there was a buffet of all kinds of rap that ranged from political rap to gangster rap and now everyone is interested in doing the same thing making music boring; of course, this was paraphrased.
