Rumor has it; Diddy is planning on shutting Bad Boy Records’ doors for good.
According to Rasha Entertainment, Diddy has been in talks to close down the label and will be making an announcement about the company change in the coming days.
Bad Boy Records in the 90’s was the premiere label that was home to Hip-Hop and R&B’s heavy hitters. Biggie Smalls and Faith Evans's names alone helped Bad Boy see success in ways that were monumentally unheard of for independent record labels at the time.
Acts currently signed under the label are Day 26, Cassie, Janelle Monae and Donnie Klang to name a few.
Last week, Diddy announced his impending departure from Warner Music Group/Atlantic Records. The music mogul confirmed that he would be leaving the label at the close of this month; however, Bad Boy’s artists and its catalog will remain at Atlantic.
The status of Bad Boy has been depleting for some time now so the news of its close does not come as a complete surprise. Though Bad Boy is known for having some of the most phenomenal artists on their roster, it always seems like they have an invisible two album expiration date stamped on their names.
Hopefully, Diddy works out a plan b for his current artists. Making it a priority to secure a label home for just him, while leaving the artists of his label out to dry, will not look too good for Diddy.
Diddy’s Last Train to Paris has a scheduled release date set for April 2010.
