Seems like Nas has been making headlines more for his scandalous divorce proceedings and less for his musical contributions.
The Queensbridge rapper who recently welcomed a newborn son into the world was ordered by a judge yesterday to pay estranged wife, R&B singer Kelis, monthly spousal and child support. This news came just hours of the birth of their first son Knight.
A judge presiding over the Hip-Hop couples case told Nas that he must pay $44,000 a month in child support, spousal fees, and the mortgage on the couples Los Angeles estate. He was also ordered to pay Kelis's lawyer more than $30,000.
Nas' wife Kelis went into labor Monday morning and delivered their baby Wednesday (07.22) after a 3-day long natural labor. Reportedly after hearing the news of her going into labor, Nas rushed to the New York City hospital where Kelis was staying only to be turned away and denied access to witness the birth of his son.
Nas and Kelis who at one time were seen as Hip-Hop royalty, separated earlier this year. Their divorce proceedings made headlines when Kelis' lawyer filed divorce papers on the singers behalf on the first day of May.
Nas is currently gearing up to release his joint album Distant Relatives with Damian Marley which is due in stores August 2009.
