The 6th annual VH1 Hip Hop Honors aired last night on VH1.
The ceremony for the first time honored a record label and that record label was Def Jam. It’s no secret; for the last 25 years, Def Jam has been at the evolutionary forefront of the Hip-Hop culture. Giving the genre artists like LL Cool J, DMX, and even Jay-Z, Def Jam has proven time and time again that they earned their spots as one of Hip-Hop’s pioneers.
The ceremony saw performances from Eminem, Fabolous, Foxy Brown, Ghostface, Chrisette Michele, Scarface, Ludacris, and Public Enemy to name a few.
This year’s Hip-Hop Honors also marked the return of DMX who has been missing from the limelight along with a performance from Ja Rule and Ashanti. DMX performed his song “Party Up” as if he hasn’t missed a beat, appearing the same way he looked when the single first dropped.
The event was hosted by Tracy Morgan who kept the crowd entertained with his many jokes and punch lines.
Memorable performances would have to be DMX, Ludacris, Public Enemy, and the monster mash-up of Def Jam’s top hits performed by Kid Rock and Wale to name a few.
