It seems as if Notorious B.I.G.'s biopic is opening up doors for other legendary Hip Hop acts to tell their stories by way of the silver screen.
Sources are reporting that there is a N.W.A. (Niggaz With Attitude) biopic in the works that will highlight the rise and fall of N.W.A. The group were signed to Hip Hop's bad boy, Suge Knight's label, Death Row Records and included Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E, and MC. Ren.
The movie is said to be produced by Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Tomica Wright (Eazy-E's widow). It will chronicle the creation and dismantling of the group, the impact the group had on Hip Hop, and the tragic death of Eazy-E to AIDS.
As of right now, the producers are searching for a director to bring the film to life. If and when one is found, the N.W.A. biopic will be the second biopic to hit theaters telling the story of a Hip Hop act. Ice Cube who owns his own production company and has directed numerous hit movies, I'm sure will do this movie much justice.
I love the fact that Hip Hop is branching out into the theaters. A lot of people looking in on Hip Hop as outsiders and not fans, only see the blurry surface as to what Hip Hop is about. These artists that come from what may seem as nothing have past's that are crazier and more action filled than the Oscar nominated films we see in theaters today.
When I went to see the Notorious biopic, there were all types of people in the theater ranging from teens to the elderly and to see them all shed a tear at the very end of the movie let me know that the story of a Hip Hop artist can be felt if it is told and told right.
I look forward to seeing more biopics done on Hip Hop artists and hopefully we can take home an Academy Award.
