The infamous Sid and Nancy
The infamous Sid and Nancy

This month is the thirty first anniversary of the death of Nancy Spungen, famous girlfriend of Sid Vicious, the now deceased bass player of the punk band The Sex Pistols.

To this day, no one really knows what happened in room 100 of the Chelsea Hotel, located in New York City. As the story goes, Sid placed a call to police that Nancy was bleeding and needed an ambulance. When police arrived, they found Nancy dead on the bathroom floor with a single knife wound to the abdomen.

Sid was immediatly taken into custody.  Later in jail he said that he was a "dirty dog" and had stabbed Nancy. He spent a few months in Riker's Island, a few days later, he was dead of a heroin overdose.

There is alot of speculation that Sid did it, others say that it was their drug dealer who habitually sold the couple heroin.

Considering that the couple had over $10,000 in their hotel room was missing, Sid's earnings from his days with the Sex Pistols, it seems strange to me. Also, people who Sid hung out with, have testified that he was with them and did not return to the hotel room until the call was placed.

Was his "confession" of Nancy's murder ramblings of a burn out junkie or is it true?
