First bad beat story of 2009
There is an old tradition that says whatever you are doing at midnight on New Year’s Eve, you will be doing all year. Obviously, I want to be playing poker; so I entered an online tournament to play into the New Year. Right at midnight, I flopped broadway. The flop was a rainbow, so I should have been a shoo-in for the win. But, something in my gut told me I was going to lose. Lo and behold, I was right. The next card was a J, which gave the player in seat 4 – quad Jacks. Great way to start the New Year!
If you are the King or Queen of bad beat stories, you may want to consider playing at
Lucky’s Card Room in Tampa. In January, they are rewarding bad beat players. Every Sunday and Monday from 6pm-9pm and 9pm-12am, the first player to have Jacks or Better full beat at showdown will have the chance to win up to $500. Check the card room for more specific details. Now, your bad beat story may turn into your best story.
Speaking of bad beats, I thought it I would share a few more famous ones with you. So don’t feel bad – you’re in good company!
2006 WSOP Event: Mike Caro flopped four-of-kind 8’s. What are the odds that he would win the hand? Almost 100% right? Almost, another play hit runner-runer to end up with a straight flush. UGH!
1995 WSOP Event: Barbara Enright had pocket 8’s in the big blind at the final table. Brent Carter, the small blind was the only caller, so Enright pushed all in. Carter called with 6-3. Carter flopped two pair and Enright was eliminated in 5th place. I don’t think I am ever going to play pocket 8’s again.
2008 WSOP Event: On Day 1 of the tournament, Moto Mabuchi hit quad A’s on the river. For a moment, he was ecstatic; until, Justin Philips turned over the Royal Flush he hit on the river. – SICK!
