3 simple Texas Hold’em resolutions
It’s the time of year to make resolutions. For you to be successful, you need to do three important things with your resolutions:
1) Write them down
2) Be Specific
3) If you break them, go back to them as soon as possible.
Here are three resolutions for 2009 to improve your Hold’Em game.
Play Your Position: Texas Hold’em is all about position. If you are under the gun, or first to act, Ace-rag is probably not a great hand (depending on the table). However, you may actually raise with it, if you have the button. Begin to define some hands that you definitely would or wouldn’t play in certain positions.
Record Your Play: It is important to keep track of your play – the wins and the losses. It doesn’t have to be very formal. Just keep track of the following: date, time, place, buy-in amount(s), type of game: 1/2 no-limit, deepstack tournament, and what you walked away with. You can look for patterns. Maybe you win more on the weekends than after work, or maybe you play turbo tournaments best. Your mind can play tricks on you, but the numbers won’t.
Observe: It is important to observe your opponents table behavior. If you play in a home game, online or at your local card room, you will most likely play against some of the same people. Each time you play, pick one player to observe. Watch for their individual “tells” and make some notes.
See you at the tables….where I will be watching you.
