The Cavs have officially lost the man that helped their offense quite a bit over the past two seasons, as the Detroit News is reporting the Pistons have hired Cavs assistant John Kuester as head coach. The report says that Kuester will get a two-year deal with a team option for a third season at $1.5 mil per season.
The Pistons seemed close to naming former Mavericks coach Avery Johnson as their coach, but he pulled himself from the running over an issue with the contract. "Where we are as a team right now is where we were at the start of Rick Carlisle's era here," GM Joe Dumars said. "We are in the same sort of transition mode. A $4 million to $5 million coach is not what we need right now."
Kuester is no stranger to the Pistosn, as he was an assistant under Larry Brown during the Pistons' championship season of 2003-04. The coach was a big part of helping out the Cavs offense this past season, and was regarded as an important role in the Cavs' posting the best record in the NBA this season.
