The Cavs first free agent signing could be close to happening, as the Plain Dealer reports that Toronto guard Anthony Parker and the Cavs are close to a deal. The report says that Parker and the Cavs have "agreed to the structure of a contract," meaning that it's all about wrapping things up and he'll sign in the next day or two.
The 34-year-old Parker has been with the Raptors the past three seasons, and last year put up 10.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 43 percent from the floor and 39 percent from 3-point range. He has also spent time playing in Europe.
The Cavs look at Parker as a veteran that fills a need at the wing position. At 6-6, he can shoot, and also create shots, something that the Cavs will be looking for from him. At one point in his career he was the Euroleague's Most Valuable Player.
There was some chatter about a sign-and-trade with the Raptors that involved Parker, but once the Raptors signed Hedo Turkoglu, the Cavs went ahead with dealing with Parker one-on-one.
The early thought is that Parker will come off the bench, likely to play behind Delonte West. It's a position that the Cavs looked to upgrade this offseason, and while he's not the star-studded player they really targeted like a Ron Artest or Trevor Ariza, he still fills a need on the club.
