A new and unexpected name has popped up on the Cavaliers radar, and it's one that knows all about winning a NBA title - considering he did it with the Lakers three weeks ago - swingman Trevor Ariza. ESPN's Chris Broussard is reporting that the 24-year-old is getting pushed hard by Cavs coach Mike Brown to make the move East to play with LeBron James and the Cavaliers.
The Raptors, Blazers, Clippers and Rockets are also in prusit of Ariza, but the Cavs seem to have a great interest in getting something agreed upon right away. The reason he would leave L.A. is that they are unwilling to pay him more than the $5.6 million mid-level exception.
The Cavs can only offer the mid-level as well, but word is Ariza is peeved at the Lakers, and will look elsewhere to play in the 2009-2010 season. Ariza had a solid year in 08-09, putting up 8.9 points and 4.3 rebounds in the regular season. He played better in the postseason, going up to 11.3 points and had 4.2 rebounds per game. He had 16 points and 15 points in the last two Lakers victories in the Finals vs Orlando.
He has played for three teams in his five-year career, but at just 24, could be a building block for the Cavs for the future if they can convince him to sign.
