The start of what many feel will be a serious championship run for the Cavs has been a bit murky to say the least with the off the court issues of Delonte West, as well as with two quick losses to start the season. Saturday night though the team took care of what likely is a less than stellar foe in the Charlotte Bobcats, winning 90-79 in front of a sellout crowd at Quicken Loans Arena. Below is our good, bad and ugly in a game that featured the return of guard Delonte West.
The Good:
* The return of Delonte West was a welcome sight to the Cavs, their fans, and the front office. West brought energy to the floor and the crowd gave him a nice ovation when he entered the game off the bench. He also played a big part in the win, hitting for 13 points and was 5-for-7 from the field, including a three in 24 minutes. "He's a guy who can score, but also, run the team and distribute the ball at the right time," caoch Mike Brown said of West. "The fans were extremely supportive, it was a great response that was well deserved."
* The team didn't get a big night from LeBron James in the scoring column, scoring just 14 points, but that was just fine. He was 5-for-11 from the field, and played 37 minutes as the game was close till about the midway mark of the third quarter. James also fed the ball well in the win, putting out nine assists and grabbing seven rebounds.
* Mo Williams was the big scoring threat, as he popped in 24 points in 35 minutes. He was 9-for-14 from the field, and was 5-for-8 from three-point range. He did lead the team in turnovers with five, but for the most part played well when the team needed it.
* The team was solid on defense, holding the Bobcats to just 13 third quarter points, and 79 on the night in holding them to 42 percent shooting. Add to that the nine blocks on the night, and the defense had their best game of the four played.
The Bad:
* There were still points in the contest where the team seemed to have a letdown, and it was at those points that the Bobcats were able to get out and run. Charlotte's only real lead of the night was six points at 12-6, but the fact that the Cavs were up just four at the half shows that the team still isn't there quite yet. "I'm not sure it will take a long time (to be more cohesive as a unit), the guys we brought in are All-star NBA players," guard Daniel Gibson said. "I just think it takes a couple games here and there to get a feel for what each guy likes to do, and just to get a feel for how each guy likes to play."
* Too many turnovers - 17. They were sloppy with the ball at points, and just like in Minnesota they need to take better care of the ball. Hopefully a few practices and some time away from actual game play will help them as they get ready for action next week.
* The team needs to challenge more on the outside shots, as the Bobcats were able to hit for six of 13 three pointers on the night, and that's something that has to bother Mike Brown.
The Ugly:
* Halloween at the Q provided some ugly, and I mean some REAL ugly outfits that adults should never try to squeeze themselves into.
Next:
Time off. The club will get some time away from the court before they have to return on Tuesday nght for an improved Wizards team.
