Amongst the attendees were many local residents including Evan Queitsch, Jon and Kristin Sherman, and Sean and Angi Maclaren, all administrators of the Delaware based educational organization Founder's Values, a group dedicated to the traditional precepts, espoused by the founding fathers which made America the greatest nation on earth. The good folks of FV were kind enough to share some of their perspectives on the day's festivities. This is a sample of what they had to say:
Evan Queitsch said "There were between 30k and 50k people rallying on the steps of the Capitol. The speakers were great and the House Republicans (not including Castle) did a good job of rallying the crowd.”

Angi Maclaren was quick to add, “I'd go with the closer to 50,000 people. The front lawn was at least halfway full from one side to the other & not including the hundreds of people walking around near the circle.”

Along those lines Kristen Sherman also offered, “...considering there was less than one week's notice and it was on a Thursday at noon, I think the crowd was TREMENDOUS”!

"Immediately following the rally,” Queitsch continued, "nearly everyone adjourned to the Congressional office buildings, lines surrounding them... Congressional aides from Iowa... and from Utah hung signs from their windows that read 'Kill the bill'! and 'Utah says NO'! Iowa Congressman Steve King's Aides hung the “Gadsden” flag and American flags out the window and the crowds cheered and chanted "Kill the Bill!" It was quite a sight. I was at the 9-12 rally and the energy from there was in force again. I was absolutely in shock at the sight of all those people.”

Kristen went on to share her experience saying, “The event began with prayer, the pledge and then many people spoke... I think everyone who was against this Healthcare bill wanted to get in on the excitement... We [sang] "God Bless America" at the end and then everyone dispersed to see their reps. At this point we waited to get in. All three buildings were packed with people and lines... while we were waiting to get in to see (DE. Representative Mike) Castle, some staffers from other reps taped signs to their windows that read ‘Kill the Bill’ and ‘I'd rather have the Swine Flu’... Once we got in, we thanked them for their support. They also were handing out sheets with all the reps names who were still on the fence about this bill. We did get in to see Castle, [who] did the typical politician thing of answering questions by not really answering the questions.”

Mrs. Maclaren added a very interesting, yet extremely valid dimension when she threw in, “I am very concerned that the Republican Party will get a 'big head' over the victories on Tuesday and the turnout from yesterday. This is not about the Republican Party but rather the American people.” Truer words were never spoken Angi!

In conclusion Queitsch, ever the lighthearted soul, recounted a fairly humorous anecdote that underscores how unabashedly clueless folks in Washington generally are:

“... as I was at the entrance holding our Founders Values banner... a congressional aide, who would not divulge his boss’s name, walked out of the building wide eyed and asked me ‘What IS all this’? I replied, ‘Are you serious? Did you miss the huge rally at the Capitol 20 minutes ago’? He shook his head and when I asked who he worked for he walked off.”

The whole health care reform matter is enigmatic to say the very least. Those of us who are honest with ourselves admit there are so many facets to the respective arguments, consensus is nearly impossible and clarity wholly foreign. At times like this it might perhaps be best to refer to the principles which we have historically understood to make America a truly great nation; limited government, lower taxes, and individual innovation chief amongst them.

Those who shun these ideals shall of course give every consideration to Pelosi-Obama care and applaud its intent. Those who embrace them shall fight on until the aberration of socialized health care is safely in our rear view mirror. God help us all...

Until next time...
