Glenn Beck and ‘The Plan’ visit America’s newest Political Hotspot: The Villages (Part Two)
Sarah Palin is heading to
The Villages tomorrow (Tuesday) as part of her ‘Going Rogue’ book signing tour sensation. Palin was a hit during her last visit in September 2008 stumping for the McCain/Palin ticket in the last Presidential campaign.
Former Governor of Arkansas and Presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee who now hosts his own talk show made The Villages part of his book signing tour. Huckabee is still in the top four names touted for the Republican nomination in 2012.
The Villages is increasingly home to the baby boomers that are retiring and heading south for a lifestyle of golf and entertainment every night in the Village Squares. And more importantly they vote.
The 2000 census had the population of The Villages of 8,333 but that has significantly increased and it is a political microcosm that politicians and their advisers avoid at their electoral peril.
The Villages’ own newspaper
The Daily Sun reports that many in the crowd traveled from far and wide to catch a glimpse of Beck and maybe get a book or two signed. They report that Mike Stepka from Massachusetts traveled with his 2-year-old daughter to see Beck at the Villages after missing out seeing him in Providence R.I., and it also gave him a chance to visit his mother a resident there.
It’s hard to estimate how many will turn out for the former Alaskan and Vice President Candidate tomorrow but if book sales are any indicate the numbers will be similar to Glenn Beck’s.
Reports in this morning show the top three first day sales of non-fiction books with Bill Clinton topping the list, Palin second and now Secretary State, then Senator Hillary Clinton third. So Palin is moving books at a rate of knots.
As is Beck; he has had four best sellers this year alone including ‘Arguing with Idiots’ and ‘Glenn Beck’s Common Sense.”
Whilst the main stream media may mock both Beck and Palin and populist conservative celebrities chasing money and ratings it cannot be argued that their message does not resonate with everyday ordinary Americans.
The Villages proves that.
