'Washout…rout' says Scarborough
Commentators across the board have written off Virginia as not worth watching. It’s already a lock.
Joe Scarborough, a former Republican congressman who now hosts his own morning show on the liberal cable network MSNBC was in the Commonwealth this past Friday. He said this Monday morning, “Virginia is going to be an absolute washout.” He went on to say “Everything we hear down there….it’s just a complete rout.”
Asked by liberal journalist Mike Barnacle “isn’t Virginia just going back to where it belongs though?’
Scarborough: “Yeah, it is. We heard it last Fall; we heard everyone running around with their hair on fire saying ‘Virginia’s moved out of the Republican column; Barack Obama has changed the map; it’s purple now! It’s purple! It’s like an earthquake and when it moves it will shift the plates and it’s just like Karl Rove’s 2006 ‘permanent majority’ which lasted for a year.”
Asked about New Jersey, Scarborough said “Virginia’s gone. This is the one.” Game over.
The national media over the past seven days have gone from covering the two gubernatorial races that everyone was watching until New York State’s 23rd District came into play. McDonnell and co. were already ahead in the polls but instead of tightening as conventional wisdom has it closer to election day, the Republican Party is striding ahead.
The media love a good battle and they are not getting one in the Commonwealth. The Fourth Estate love something to talk and write about as that is the nature of their profession so they have already moved on to ‘who threw Deeds under the bus?’ Was it the White House and Kaine?’ 'Is it true that Deeds will lose by not taking their advice so this is his own entire fault? and ‘only 'if he would have listened!’ Another question regarding Kaine is will he stay as chair of the DNC? He is close to Obama but not the best of fundraisers which is important as we head into the mid-terms.
More chatter for political junkies and the media and blogosphere while the politicians are out raising money and shaking hands.
We have not yet gone to the polls in Virginia at time of writing but those Congressmen who are up for re-election and those seeking to depose them have already forgotten about tomorrow and already have their eye firmly on next November.
