At my house, the holidays are already here. My 8 year old daughter and her 16 year old brother are decorating en masse as Christmas tunes play in the background.
Can you imagine a 16 year old boy being this excited about Christmas? Me either, obviously there’s a catch. My determined girl bribed him with a Starbucks gift card. A 16 year old boy working for food is something I can understand.
Working from home, I’m privy to all of the activities and excitement of celebrating. I get exhausted just being here. I wonder if I'll have a holiday frame-of-mind by Christmas, let-alone before Thanksgiving.
With the stressful times we’re facing it’s tough to get into the spirit of the season so we need to go out and find it.
An event that always puts me in the spirit of the holidays is Oregon Zoo Lights. Bundle up, get a cup of hot cocoa and stroll through the million-light wonderland the Zoo presents for visitors.
Enjoy an elaborate light show with 200 animated displays of animals jumping, spraying, snapping and leaping . . .
The zoo train, covered in lights for the occasion, looks magical, as if it comes straight out of a Christmas storybook.
Aside from beautiful lights there’s live music, crafts for the kids, specialty items for purchase, detailed miniature train sets, elves and people-shaped reindeer walking about.
The Zoo’s Cascade Grill Restaurant offers a special Holiday Buffet every weekend and one full week during the Zoo Lights event. The buffet is well worth visiting with an impressive menu full of delicious, perfectly prepared food.
Most of the animal areas won’t be open but enough are available to give you the added pleasure of visiting the zoo’s animals.
Zoo Lights begin on November 29th and operate through December 28th (except Christmas Eve and Christmas). For additional information visit Zoo Lights . This is a great opportunity for a soul soothing evening.
