When you are out and about with your special needs child chances are you will attract attention. You or your child may feel uncomfortable with all of the stares or comments, but this is a valuable chance to help spread acceptance of special needs children. Also, don't assume that the extra attention is negative - a stranger may have some supportive information or positive words to share, and your child just might make a new friend. If the attention is negative you may have the chance to educate someone about your child's siuation or condition and to destroy some myths or stereotypes.
The Boston Special Needs Kids Examiner, Amanda Armstrong, has a great article on this subject. Read it here.
