Poker sites see boost in traffic despite feds seizure of $34 million
It seems the scare tactics being employed by the Southern District of NY Attorney’s office is producing the reverse effect of what was intended. If their goal was to put a dent in the online poker industry they have failed miserably.
PokerScout.com latest reports show
PartyPoker traffic is up 15% and 12% in the weeks following the seizure of an estimated $34 million of player’s funds. Even the sites most affected by the seizure –sites that cater to US players—have seen a boost in traffic, except for
PokerStars; whose traffic is down 5% since the seizure.
For the year, online poker is still growing despite the continued worldwide economic situation, and the apparently futile attempts of the US government trying to enforce UIGEA regulations. I once again turn to PokerScout, whose research shows online poker has grown by 30% this year. Leading the way are
PokerStars (54% growth),
Full Tilt Poker (59%), the
Entraction Network (an astounding 88%) and the
Cake Poker Network (56%).
Something the government should take notice of is that three of the four sites/networks with the most growth cater to US players –Cake, FullTilt, and PokerStars.
