Saturday night on Capitol Hill brought an intense night for the House and a narrowly passed healthcare bill. According to Reuters, the vote was 220-215. It was supported by one Republican, Representative Cao of Louisiana, but 39 Democrats sided with the remaining Republicans who opposed the bill because of its 1.2 trillion price tag, end of life counseling, and forced public option.
This particular bill would also force Americans to purchase a health insurance policy that could cost them as much as $15,000 per year, depending on their annual income. The “option” would be imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of up to $250,000, according to a www.drudgereport.com article on Saturday
Fortunately, the bill still has a long way to go before it becomes law, and it excludes government funded abortion. The Senate must still pass their bill, and Senate majority Leader Harry Reid hopes to bring that to the floor “as soon as possible,” according to www.wsj.com. Then the two bills will need to be blended. But the Senate bill will likely be more difficult to pass because there is less unity in the Senate concerning their bill.
