In a move to keep Christ in Christmas, Christian legal group Liberty Counsel has launched their seventh annual “Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign.” They pledge to be a “Friend” to those who acknowledge Christmas, and a “Foe” to those who attempt to abolish it.
Some examples of cases that they have taken on include:
In Amelia Ohio, town officials attempted to change the name of the “Christmas parade” into “Holiday parade” when someone “questioned whether the city could be sued for celebrating Christmas.”
Liberty Counsel defended an employee last year who wanted to great customers with “Merry Christmas” and they won the suit.
Liberty Counsel says that they have also, “worked on cases involving nativity scenes on public property, senior living centers that banned elderly residents from singing Christmas carols, a Massachusetts school which banned students from wearing red and green because they are Christmas colors, school officials who censored religious words from Christmas carols, and companies which renamed Christmas trees ‘holiday trees.’”
As part of the campaign, they publish a “Naughty and Nice” listing of retailers who either attempt to abolish Christmas (“naughty”) or acknowledge it (“nice”). Liberty Counsel reports that the list comes from individual consumers who gather the information, and it’s updated as new information is received. http://lc.org/index.cfm?PID=17981 (Naughty and Nice list)
