Are you bullying yourself? Skits 9-16 for your class to act out
Did you know you can be a bully to yourself? This is illustrated in the role-play called “Squirrel rejects his bushy tail.”
Read the role-play at this link – “Be Bully Free role-play: Squirrel rejects his bushy tail”
See if it reminds you of any time when you might have rejected or put down any part of your body or your life.
When I shared this story with middle school students several years back, they shared the following reactions.
You may wish to involve your students in acting these scenarios out in skit form or getting them to share some reactions of their own.
Skit Idea #9 – From an eighth-grade girl
"A popular girl thinks that she will never get as low as the druggies are. That girl thinks she is the best in the world. But when walking down the street one day, an old friend invited her to a party that Friday. The girl goes, thinking that the party will just be dancing and having a good time. At first, that is how it is. But then the drugs and beer come out. The girl is asked to take some, but she refused to accept. The party goes on. The girl gets offered some more and she can't handle all that pressure. She is afraid she is going to crash and burn if she accepts, but she is having trouble saying no.”
Imagine that you are this girl and somebody is pressuring you to take the alcohol or drugs. (Demonstrate how you will deal with this situation.)
Skit Idea #10 – From a seventh-grade girl
"I'm unhappy with my looks in general (weight, zits with or without make-up, etc.) I'm afraid a lot of the time that no one likes me because of that.”
Imagine that you are talking to someone who has just made fun of your zits.
Skit Idea #11 – From a seventh-grade girl
"When I got my hair cut really short, everybody made fun of me.”
Imagine that you are talking to one of those people who have just finished making fun of your hair cut.
Skit Idea #12 – From a seventh-grade girl
"It makes me remember basketball when a certain girl always brags about who she is going out with. That makes me feel bad.”
Imagine that you are talking to that girl.
Skit Idea #13 – From a sixth-grade girl
"One of my friends always brags about everything she does. Sometimes I get so tired of listening to her and about all the things she gets to do. Sometimes I feel like doing something to get her caught, because sometimes she always lies about it, and I always know when she is telling a lie.”
Imagine that you are talking to this girl about her bragging and her lies.
Skit Idea #14 – From an eighth-grade boy
"My temper. I can be nice until people light my fuse which is about a one-half second length.”
Imagine that you are talking to someone who you feel is about to light your fuse.
Skit Idea #15 – From an eighth-grade girl
"My height makes it hard for me to be as good at basketball as I could be. If I was taller, I would get to play more during games. I wish I could be a little bit taller.”
Imagine that you are talking to your coach about not getting enough play time.
Skit Idea #16 – From an eighth-grade boy
"One time I was obsessed with working out. I would lift weights all the time. One day, I decided to try more weight because I wanted to be more muscular. The weight was too much and tore some muscles in my arms. So I dropped the weight and broke three ribs- all because I was worried about not being stronger.”
Imagine that you are talking to your coach, a parent, or one of your friends.
