Week Nine in Montgomery County football was not the time to be in the business of picking games. Upsets ruled the night, and with it some gleaming percentages and recent hot streaks.
For example, B-CC’s win over Churchill, and Poolesville’s win over Wheaton was not picked by any of the people I follow and have chronicled in the Gazette or Gamedaymd. Perhaps the night’s other biggest surprise in terms of incorrect unanimity was Seneca Valley’s loss to Whitman. That’s right, all ten people, including myself, had the Vikings losing at The Valley.
I managed to pick Walter Johnson over Wootton, which only one other person picked, but did not think Gaithersburg would beat Northwest. Gaithersburg and Magruder may be the best 5-loss teams in the county, the victims of brutally difficult schedules.
So as always and without further ado, here are the results of the Week Nine Previews and Predictions (Montgomery County public schools only).
I was 8-4 (67%), missing Whitman, Gaithersburg, Poolesville, and Churchill. The four-person staff at Gamedaymd went 27-21 (56%). The five-person staff at The Gazette went 31-29 (51%), easily their worst showing of the year.
Record to date: 88-29 (75%).
