The Contemporary has done it again... thinking outside the box for their forthcoming exhibition! A combination of music, art and a modern invention. Who knows what they will come up with next?
On Saturday, September 12 from 6-8pm, the Contemporary Museum will receive the first artist-sent transmissions for its Fall exhibition FAX during a public reception and live music performance. FAX will explore the potential of the fax machine as a device for creating, transmitting, and distributing an artist’s ideas and images, featuring the fax-based works of more than 120 international artists and designers.
In an extemporaneous concert experience, Music by Fax, cutting-edge composers Ken Ueno in San Francisco and Du Yun in New York will fax original works directly to the Contemporary during the reception. The faxes might appear as sheet music, written instruction, drawing, or any other form of inspiration, which a quartet of musicians will immediately play, without rehearsal.
Guests at the opening will be the first to see the fax-based works on view at the museum and meet local artists contributing work to FAX, including Sondheim Prize finalist Leslie Furlong, Hugh Pocock, and Soledad Salamé. Wine and light fare will be served.
NOTE: Admission is free. Now THAT is an incentive to come for sure!
FAX will be open through Sunday, December 20, 2009.
