Congratulations to the Contemporary Museum for sealing this deal! Despite these turbulent economic times, especially in the art world, the report below provides VERY good news:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 29, 2009

The Contemporary Museum has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to be used for salary preservation for its full-time staff members, announced museum Executive Director Irene Hofmann.

To be eligible for the grant, arts institutions must have applied for and received support from the NEA within the past four years. The Contemporary last received NEA funds to support its exhibition and programming initiatives in 2005.

The grant is part of the Federal Government’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). ARRA is a stimulus bill which was signed into law on February 17, 2009. In addition to its support of the nonprofit arts community, the bill includes measures to modernize infrastructure, enhance energy independence, expand educational opportunities, preserve affordable health care, and provide tax relief.

The National Endowment for the Arts has invested $600,000 from ARRA in 10 Maryland arts and cultural nonprofit institutions. Maryland has been allotted a total of $3.9 million in funds from ARRA.

About the Contemporary Museum

About the National Endowment for the Arts

The National Endowment for the Arts is a public agency dedicated to supporting excellence in the arts, both new and established; bringing the arts to all Americans; and providing leadership in arts education. Established by Congress in 1965 as an independent agency of the federal government, the Arts Endowment is the largest annual national funder of the arts, bringing great art to all 50 states, including rural areas, inner cities, and military bases.
