
Since 1999, 12 toddlers have lost fingertips after sticking their hands into hinges on Maclaren-brand strollers. At least three other young children have been injured by a opening-and-closing mechanism that has sharp edges.
These reports prompted the company and the Consumer Products Safety Commission on Nov. 9 to issue a safety recall of about 1 million strollers sold through Babies "R" Us, Target and other mass retailers over the past decade.
Maclaren is advising anyone who uses one of the recalled strollers to take the product to the store where they bought it and have hinge covers installed. The company has sent covers to all stores it knows has stocked the strollers, and the repair will performed for free.
Parents can also e-mail sales@maclarenbaby.com and order a set of hinge covers by providing with their name, full contact information and stroller brand anme and VIN (vehicle identification number).
