The wait, as Romulan baddie Nero says in an outtake from the latest Star Trek movie, is over.  Announced initially today on the Star Trek Online Facebook page and then shortly thereafter on the official website, Cryptic Studios' space adventure MMORPG Star Trek Online's release date will be February 2, 2010 in the United States, followed by a February 5 release in Europe.

That doesn't leave a lot of time for closed beta, for which they are currently accepting applications.  Champions Online players who bought six-month or lifetime subscriptions to the game will get a guaranteed slot in closed beta, but others can apply for access at the official site.  Cryptic will probably have an open beta, similar to Champions Online, before the live release in February.
