Police fatally shoot corrections officer in the legs. Yes, that’s what I said, the legs.

The Worcester Massachusetts district attorney’s office said today that Michael A. Membrino, 49, was fatally shot by police in both legs after allegedly brandishing a handgun and making threats at Partners Pub, a Fitchburg Massachusetts bar Sunday night.

Membrino, of Westminster Massachusetts, was wearing body armor when two police officers came to his house after the brandishing incident.

He shot at the officers. They shot back, hitting him in each leg.

Membrino died a short time later at a Gardner hospital. An autopsy indicated he died of the leg wounds.

Membrino was an officer at the North Central Correctional Institution, a medium security facility in Gardner.
