Fall Fest in Edwardsville/Glen Carbon IL features Rt 66 10k run
This fall festival has so much to offer it’s difficult to know where to start. Thursday you can attend a presentation, by paranormal author Len Adams at the Glen Carbon Centennial Library. Adams is the vice-president of the American Ghost Society and has hosted the ghost tours in Alton and Lebanon IL. He is considered an expert in the paranormal and has been featured in many articles, radio and news broadcasts. Learn more about the library by visiting their website.
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, observe the traditions of an 1800’s mourning at the Mourning Exhibit at 1820 Col. Benjamin Stephenson House at 409 South Buchanan in Edwardsville. See how families grieved while the lawyers assessed the possessions and family prepared to have their belongings sold at auction.
Friday, at Miner’s Square in Glen Carbon, indulge in live entertainment, activities for the kids and refreshments. Meanwhile in Edwardsville, enjoy Blues and BBQ at the city park and library. Hot and cold cider, Italian Beef, pulled pork, brats, ribs, chicken and much more are available from local vendors and clubs. Historic downtown Edwardsville offers many fine restaurants and pubs in addition to festival offerings.
On Saturday morning, the International Storyteller & Author Bobby Norfolk appears at the Glen Carbon Centennial Library to tell chilling, family-friendly tales using movement and vocal effects. here. Later, apple-themed activities and foods can be found at the Tech Spot, an Apple store in Glen Carbon. Pumpkin painting, balloon artist, big screen Wii tournament are among the activities. A variety of food vendors and additional activities remain at Miner’s Square. Rock-N-Wheels, a display of oversized and unusual vehicles will be located at the Edwardsville city park. Interactive games for older kids such as Dance Dance Revolution, Snow Board Simulator and Speed Zone Grand Prix will be available. Saturday evening, wine and microbrews will be on hand at Miner’s Square. Open Houses at many places of interest will invite guests to learn more. Visit the Glen Carbon Fire Station 2, Glen Carbon Heritage Museum, and the Yanda Log Cabin Open House.
Sunday offers
Lincoln as a Surveyor Presentation at Madison County Historical Museum, a presentation of surveying methods and equipment at use during the time Lincoln worked as a surveyor in New Salem Il. Refreshments and food will be made part of the day’s events. The museum is open all weekend and you can visit their website
