What do you do during one of the worst economic situations in almost a century? Follow Mr. President and push for an increase in taxes! Governor Beverly Perdue wants to improve education and is pressing hard to get a tax hike to do just that. She may be a former teacher but common sense shouts, "Why do we have a state lottery?"
Since the state lottery, North Carolina has boasted that it has improved education by spewing millions of dollars into the system. But yet, Perdue wants to burden the people of North Carolina by increasing taxes. Taxes that will throw more money into public education when we know millions of dollars have not helped yet. I guess Mrs. Governor was not a math teacher.
Governor Perdue is just trying to get in the spotlight. She wants more of a public profile unlike former Governor Easley. We get it. You want media attention. How about good media attention? Would that be better? Governor Easley, why don't you decrease taxes? Why don't you get rid of the sales tax? How about banishing the NC income tax? It would be more practical to actually help the citizens of North Carolina instead of taxing them into a slow death. Remember, it is for a cause that has shown to not benefit from millions of extra dollars? I guess common sense is in short supply not only in Washington but in Raleigh as well.
The polls numbers are not magically declining. There is a reason. Help our state instead of trying to prove a point to other bureaucrats and politicians. We matter much more and come next election, you may just realize that.
