I found Your Art's Desire by happy accident when I went to meet Gail Weber of TC.TOSCA for coffee at the Dunn Brothers shop next door. An unassuming, welcoming little place, they offer custom framing and a wide variety of art and fine crafts in every price range. Kenneth and Melissa Herren, the owners, were there the morning I visited, preparing for the Visual Pros exhibit, and they kindly gave me a sneak preview of some of the work.
The artists had me absolutely captivated with their intimate and evocative pieces. Collaging old books and other printed material with drawing, painting, and even three-dimensional elements, they took me into a kind of wonderland, like dreams, old memories, fairy tales. Simply wonderful. While Your Art's Desire does not currently appear to have its own website, the individual artists can be found online:
The show's opening reception is this Saturday, Nov. 15, from 7 to 10 p.m.; I plan to be there to see the completed exhibit. Saturday's a big day, because the Minnesota Center for Book Arts is having their Books Arts Festival then too -- another thing I can't wait to attend, and another fantastic place to pick up gifts for the holidays.
Places like these offer what I believe to be the coolest holiday shopping anywhere, and they support our own arts community in the process.
