A hairdresser by trade and an avid motorcyclist, Cindi Servante has made a major dent in the fight against helmet hair. After one too many bad hair days, she thought, "as a hairdresser, I should be able to do something about this," and started inventing. It wasn't long before the Novato, California-based biker chick had a winner. Put a "Style Saver Scarf" under your motorcycle helmet and, believe it not, your hair stays fluffed. Really.
"They're based on the concept of those satin pillows women used to sleep on to keep their hairdos in shape in the days when they used to all go get their hair done once a week," she told me.
Mine is a "Haight Ashbury" with a paisly print, which is her favorite as well, though the snake-skin prints are pretty hot, too. Coming up are more animal prints, like leopard, she reveals.
For best results against the dreaded flat-head look, you first part your hair in the opposite direction, then slip the scarf over your head, tying a knot in the back. You only have to fit the scarf once, since the short elastic band sewn into the back lets you slip it on and off without adjustment.
Because the fabric is so satiny, your motorcycle helmet just slides on over it. When you take off your helmet you just flip your hair back to the way it's supposed to be parted and fluff a little. Voila, your style has been saved!
And you know, it's also fashionable to wear even when you're not riding, like on those windy days we have in San Francisco. Yay, Cindi! How do you keep your hair looking so nice even after a day of riding? Ha! Only your hairdresser knows for sure.
