Jim Dalrymple of The Loop has confirmed that Apple retail stores are now fixing broken iPhone screens in-store. The repair is completed free of charge, on the spot for iPhone users (all models) if the phone is under warranty and the defect is covered by the warranty. If the phone is no longer covered under the one year warranty or Apple Care, the user can pay $199 to have the screen replaced.

Having a broken screen doesn't necessarily mean the phone has to have huge spider web cracks or even hairline cracks; if the phone has any dust under the screen surface it can be replaced under the warranty. Whatever your particular issue with the screen, it's worth a shot at taking it into the store and seeing a representative at the Genius Bar.

You can make an appointment at your local Genius Bar online by following the steps as listed on the Apple site here.

How are the Geniuses replacing your screen? They will take your iPhone into the back and essentially use a giant suction cup type machine to extract the faulty screen and replace it with a shiny new one.

In addition to now being able to replace broken screens, Apple store are also able to repair or replace defective audio components on the iPhone.

iPhone users have long awaited a time when they would be able to have their iPhones serviced in store; the old process involved the user having to give up his or her phone while it was sent away to be fixed.
