Microsoft ® announced that's it web portal, MSN.com, is getting a facelift in 2010 and presented the world with a preview. For those of us who quickly became tired of the blue background and endless amounts of links and content, the redesign is long over due.
The new MSN will clean up the cluttered and over stylized homepage to apparently get back to basics. Content is presented in a very simple, direct, and clean manner by reducing ther overall number of links and competing content, thus making "scan ability" much easier.
As for functionality, the new site will incorporate the Bing "decision engine" into all site areas. This is presumably in an attempt to get more visibility and eventual market share in the Google ruled world of search. Additionally, social networking functionality has been added to the MSN homepage. Users will apparently be able to keep track of tweets, Facebook updates, and Windows Live updates directly from the MSN home.
While this preview does give some insight into the future of MSN, it will be interesting to see how much the preview changes from what it is today to what they actually launch with. All in all, it seems to be a step in the right direction.
