Clutter drives Moms Nuts!1. Be narrow-minded. Whenever possible, limit each room to a single purpose. Clutter happens when you try to do too much with too little. If the room is a bedroom, try not to modify it into an additional space, like a home office or craft space. The result will likely be an untidy room and less productive sleep.

2. A Plastic Haze Toss some of those small, plastic containers in your kitchen cupboards. Plastic containers are a lot like cosmetics. A little is great; too much is a train wreck. Storing and keeping track of food containers (and their worrisome lids) generates more stress than they are worth. The next time you store leftovers, try using a mug or ceramic bowl. Secure a little plastic wrap on top and you're set! Another useful solution is a zipper bag to store leftover food.

3. Toss the old cosmetics, Mama! CBS Beauty and Wellness Contributor, Dale Hadden, says “common sense” should come into play when deciding to 'pitch' makeup. If something smells strange, don’t take any chances- discard it for health reasons. If you haven’t or can’t wear it, get rid of it for sanity reasons. Here are a few date guidelines: concealer lasts around 6-8 months, powders around 1 year, pressed powder, eye-shadows, blush, mascara only 3 months. Use a Sharpie marker to record dates on products you don't use every day.

Small containers are excellent for shoes!4. If the shoes are ugly; get rid of them. Shoes are also clutter culprits. If you haven’t worn a pair of shoes in the last year (seasons considered), then give them to someone that can use them. Trade them with a friend or contact nonprofits like the Kansas City Women’s Employment Network. They provide professional clothing for women in their program transitioning into the workforce.

If the shoes are still gorgeous, but in a messy pile at the bottom of your closet, buy clear plastic containers from a dollar store. Stack them in the bottom of your closet for easy access and less clutter.

5. One kid’s junk…...another kid’s treasure. Public enemy number one to a tidy room are toys with no home. Here, plastic containers actually come in handy! Neatly store toys in long, clear container bins in the play area. Transparent bins are great storage options because kids can easily spot the items they need and replace the tops. Younger ones love to open and close them.
