This morning, snow and ice are just north in central PA and heading to New York and Boston. This is a big deal, but not for us. A major travel problem up I-95 as we head into the weekend. Behind this storm, cold air will spill in, and set the stage for yet another storm Saturday night and Sunday. That is the one that will set the stage to bring winter weather for central Maryland. My forecast map is below, and I will have more in my afternoon update.
Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories extend from the mid west to New England. Here are the main points of the storm:
Ohio: Over 1 inch of ice.
Detroit: Snow forecast up to 9 inches.
Central PA: Snow forecast over 1 foot with thunder snow.
New York Metro: The city will get around 4 inches, but tough to measure with a mix of ice and some rain. The northern suburbs and New England will average 6-10 inches with local amounts over well over 1 foot.
Southern PA: York and Adams counties to our north may get a surge of cold air at the end to finish off with some ice or snow.

Local Weather Headlines:
We will have some heavy rain try to move in this afternoon as the storm passes to our north. Fog, and perhaps a clap of thunder. Cold air will try to spill in behind it tonight and that might end with some ice or snow in southern PA. These temperatures have me a little worried. and east will will keep us safe today, but if we don't reach 44F later, then dropping to near freezing tonight is a good bet. That could make things icy.
Winter Storm as Winter Begins:
Here is the weather map for Sunday morning that I used earlier today. I still think that snow and sleet at the start will turn to rain south (city- E. Shore), but could stay icy north of the beltway. This all depends on whether a secondary low takes over off of the coast, and locks in the cold air. That is what I am working on for my update this afternoon. As of now, here is my weekend forecast. I would expect that regardless of what happens during the storm, it should end with snow and a few inches of accumulation. Cold air and snow showers could linger into Monday.
