J is for jelly.
J is for jelly.
Starr Weems de Graffenried

Last week we had a great time discovering fun, hands-on activities to teach kids about the letter I.  This week we will focus on the letter J. Choose the activities that best fit your child's age and interest and be sure to check the photo album at the bottom of the page for pictures of example activities.

Letter J activity options:

  • Words that begin with J include Jell-O, jumping jacks, jacket, jacuzzi, jail, jam, jelly, janitor, jar, jasper, jellybean, jaw, jaybird, jazz, Jeep, jet, jingle, jewel, jigsaw, job, joke, joy, jackal, juggle, juice, junk and jungle.
  • String jingle bells on a pipe cleaner and shape them into the letter J
  • Put some jelly on toast in the shape of a J.
  • Sing letter J songs like "John Jacob Jingleheimer-Schmidt" and "Jingle Bells."
  • Use Sillycone trays to freeze juice into J shapes.
  • Make a jumping bean craft like the one in the slide show.
  • Incorporate geography by learning about places like Japan, Jordan and Jerusalem.

  • Make some bean bags, decorate them with the letter J and try to juggle with them.
  • Use window markers to decorate a jar with the letter J.
  • Glue jellybeans to construction paper in the shape of a letter J.
