“It’s probably some kind of hunting lodge for rich weirdos,” Brad says as he and Janet enter the Frank-N-Furter mansion. The “Rich Weirdos” is also the name of the theatre group that puts on The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the AMC theatre in Universal’s City Walk every second and fourth Friday and Saturday of the month.
For those virgins who have never been to a midnight showing of the movie, a group of actors mimic what is being portrayed on screen, all the while ensuring audience participation. The 1975 musical based on the British play by Richard O’Brien stars Tim Curry, Barry Bostwick, and Susan Sarandon. Brad and Janet (Bostwick and Surandon) have just gotten engaged and wish to see their old Professor whom had introduced them; however, their trip is detoured thanks to a stormy night and flat tire.
The two find their way to the Frank-N-Furter mansion and stumble upon a party taking place to celebrate the cross-dressing Doctor’s Frankenstein like creation of the perfect man. After a few dance sequences, murders, and sexual exploration the Doctor, his maid, and butler expose themselves as aliens from Transsexual Transylvania.
The audience watching the film is given cues from the actors on when to yell out certain phrases and throw appropriate items; like rice and cards (the AMC theatre doesn’t allow the wet items like squirt guns or buttered toast). Plus, the actors continually yell out humorous quips as well as occasionally crawling over the theatre seats to attract attention.
So, start shivering with antici……pation, dress as your favorite character, and get ready to pledge to the lips of The Rocky Horror Picture Show!
