For a bullpen that desperately needed left-handed help, veteran specialist Trever Miller may bring just that: help.
Miller has pitched 10 big league seasons, bouncing around between several teams along the way. He has, however, made his mark as a guy who can get outs in clutch situations, something that the Cardinals struggled mightily with last year.
When looking at Miller's ERA of 4.09 last year, that may be quite deceiving, because left-handed hitters hit just .209 off of him, with a 1.78 ERA.
General manager John Mozeliak has made this move, not only for the betterment of the payroll, as Miller will cost around $2 million, but also because he realizes that changes need to be made to secure ball games in the late innings.
According to MLB.com, the club is expected to add another lefty to the bullpen in addition to the 35-year-old Miller.
Miller will be entering his eleventh season in the bigs, joining his seventh different team in the process.
