Albert Pujols hit .357 with 37 home runs and 116 RBIs in 2008.

Call me a homer, but if anyone not named Albert Pujols wins the NL MVP on Monday, I'll break out into absolute hysteria.  I will be angered, disappointed, and confused.

Listen folks, just because Ryan Howard played home run derby on occasional stretches during the season doesn't mean he deserves the "Most Valuable Player" title.  Forty-eight home runs, great.  One-hundred and forty-six RBIs, super.  One strikeout shy of 200 and a .251 batting average, now that's flat out horrendous.

Pujols was consistent all-year round, and almost heaved the Cardinals on his shoulders for a playoff ride.  Although they came up short late in the season, he was dynamic all year long, and no one can deny that his numbers overall are far superior to that of Howard.

Did I just hear a Manny Ramirez from the crowd?  He played 53 games in the NL, hardly warranting MVP consideration.  I'm not going to get all caught up in those "Manny led the Dodgers to the postseason" hoopla.  He helped, but players like James Loney, along with strong pitching from Kuroda and Derek Lowe down the stretch propelled the Los Angeles faithful into the postseason.

For once, I hope the media gets it right.  I don't know how many times I've seen them screw it up.  Pujols should be a multiple time winner by now, having been the arguable winner in 2002, 2003, and 2006.  I don't know what it is going to take to get this man recognized because he plays in the middle of America, but let's keep our fingers crossed that justice will be served.
