If you haven’t made it out to Rosenblatt Stadium to catch an Omaha Royals game in a while, here’s a taste of what you’ve missed the past few days:

Friday, August 28
New Orleans 4, Omaha 3 / Box Score

Darth Vader, R2D2, and a whole host of Storm Troopers made an appearance at Rosenblatt Stadium for this game. Casey, the Omaha Royals mascot, battled Herman the Nut and Spike with lightsabers throughout the evening. It was all in good fun as a crowd of 8,170 celebrated Star Wars Night at the ballpark. Chewbacca didn’t show up, but he howled over the PA system throughout the game, prompting kids to scream “CHHHHHEWBAACCCA!”

Fans were treated to a close game. New Orleans jumped out to an early lead when the first hitter of the game, Alejandro De Aza, drilled a home run over the right field wall. The Royals responded in the bottom of the second inning when Tim Raines Jr. hit his seventh home run of the season to right field. The teams traded runs throughout the middle innings and the game was tied 3-3 going into the eighth inning. New Orleans scored the winning run in the top of the eighth.

Saturday, August 29
New Orleans 6, Omaha 0 / Box Score

While the game didn’t go the Royals way, 6,176 fans showed up for Public Service Appreciation Night. Local police, fire, military, and other public service personnel had displays in the parking lot, showing fans what they do to keep the community safe. It was also Disabled American Veterans Appreciation Night. Disabled vets received half-price tickets.

Omaha right fielder Irving Falu extended his hitting stream to 12 games with a hit in the first inning. He is hitting .440 (22-for-50) during that stretch of games. The opposition finally found a way to get the Royals DH out. His nine-game hitting streak came to an end.

Alex Gordon was not in the lineup.

Sunday, August 30
Omaha 6, New Orleans 5 / Box Score

The first 1,500 fans received a free Omaha Royals team photo. It was also U.S. Bank Family FUNday, which meant you could see clowns throughout the concourse. Kids could get their face painted if they wanted to, and after the game, they could run the bases. Many did

Early on, it looked like the game was going to produce a football-like score. New Orleans had a 5-3 lead after the second inning, but both pitching staffs finally settled down. Omaha rallied to tie the game 5-5 after four innings. Omaha starter Lenny DiNardo was pulled in the sixth inning. Carlos Rosa and Victor Marte came in from the bullpen for the Royals and did not allow a run over the final 3.2 innings. In the eighth inning, Omaha second baseman Luis Hernandez singled to left center, driving in Scott Thorman in what turned out to be the game winning run.

Alex Gordon was out of the lineup for the second straight game. No official word regarding the reason.

The Royals have just four games remaining at home this season. They play the Iowa Cubs tonight through Thursday night. Games time is 7:05 pm for each game. Here are the remaining promotions you might want to take advantage of:

  • Tonight: $1 hot dogs
  • Tuesday: 2-Buck 2uesday (purchase a $2 general admission ticket)
  • Wednesday: Kids Eat Free
  • Thursday: Fan Appreciation Night / Thirsty Thursday ($1 beer and $1 Coke)

You can read more about each promotion at the Omaha Royals website.
